根據香港食物安全中心資料，環保及消費者團體對基因改造食物存有疑慮。
基因改造食物所引起的關注1
基因改造農作物的花粉和種子可能會意外地傳播到鄰近田野，令相近的傳統品種改變；另外，基因改造農作物可能會擾亂生態平衡；再者，種植基因改造農作物可能會導致「超級害蟲」的出現等等；相反，有機生產禁止使用基因改造生物及其衍生物，故此有機產品是消費者更為安全的選擇。

CONCERNS OVER GM FOODS 1
Unintended modification of similar species in the neighboring fields due to cross pollination; Moreover, GM food may disrupt the balance of ecosystems. Furthermore, GM food may increase the development of super pests. On the other hand, organic farming prohibits the use of genetically engineered organisms and their derivatives. Organic production is a much safer choice consumers can make.

根據食物安全中心資料2&3，在有機農業中，食物是按「確保生產過程更加『天然』」的標準生產，其間不會使用抗生素、生長激素促進劑等等。有機耕作與環境生態互相配合，以自然保育、可持續發展的理念進行作物生長。
According to Centre for Food Safety2&3, in organic farming, food is produced according to standards designed to keep production more "natural". Antibiotics and added growth hormones are excluded. Organic farming relies on ecological management and produces crops in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner.
3 有機 = 0%化學農藥及合成肥料

香港康文署亦曾提及使用化學農藥及合成肥料會對環境及動物造成不良的影響。
使用化學農藥及合成肥料的壞處4
一般的合成肥料，大多提供氮磷鉀三樣植物最需要的元素，但只有部份化肥會提供氮磷鉀以外的一至數種元素。於是幾年後，泥土便會缺乏一些微量元素，植物健康會受損，生長亦受制。另外，化學農藥容易令昆蟲產生抗藥性。其實大多數農藥都會同時對多種昆蟲，甚至魚、鳥類有殺傷力，噴灑化學農藥的結果，不但令目標害蟲死亡，連帶其他有益或無害的生物亦被殺害，導致生態失去平衡。不幸食用含有過量農藥的蔬果更會導致食物中毒，長期接觸更會增加發育、生殖、免疫、內分泌及神經等系統受損的機會，危害人類/ 動物健康。相反，沒有使用化學農藥及合成肥料對環境及動物相對健康。
Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) also mentioned the chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers on the environment and animal impact.
Cons of chemical pesticides & synthetic fertilizers4
Common synthetic fertilizers mostly provide three essential elements for plants, namely nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. However, plants also need many other microelements. Only some synthetic fertilizers provide one to a few types of elements other than nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Under such circumstances, plants have to absorb the remaining nutrients required from the soil. Therefore, after several years, these microelements will become deficient, damaging the health of plants and stunting their growth. Besides, the use of chemical pesticides will easily lead to resistance in insects. Whenever chemical pesticides are applied, there will always be a small number of strong insects which survive. Their next generations will develop stronger resistance to the pesticides. In fact, most pesticides are harmful to different types of insects, fish and birds. Not only do chemical pesticides kill the target pests, they also kill other beneficial or harmless living organisms as well. As a result, the balance of the numbers of various types of living organisms will be upset, leading to easier spread of pests. Consumption of vegetables and fruits with excessive pesticides will even cause food poisoning, which is hazardous to the health of human beingsand animals. On the other hand, without using chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers are relatively healthy on the environment and animals.
